10 Things I love about: The Sound of Music

1. The Soundtrack. Epic. Something for everyone; Nationalist pride in Edelweiss, Choral Masterpiece in the second track 'Dixit Dominus', even signing for the deaf in 'Do-re-mi'.

2. The complete and utter over the top and then some optimism of Maria. I've never known a more enthusiastic, upbeat, happy-go-lucky lady. Plus she's kinda hot.

3. It would be an amazing story of love and discovery without the anti-nazi plot, but the fact they included some of that power to the people against the system stuff takes this film to a whole new level. A new level of awesome!

4. I made a previous report about how much I despise child actors, but The Sound of Music breaks the mould. Besides the youngest, Gretel, who is a total headache, the other children are actually pretty believable and bareable. A little more effort could have gone into choosing a group of kids that look genetically similiar.

5. The costumes! Like, OMG. Clothes from curtains. The Baroness gets some pretty lush outfits too. Need I mention the ill fitting nun habits? The Sound of Music is just gagging for a fancy dress party theme.

6. The props. It may not be the most technically advanced film ever made, but the puppets, the family car, the guns in the graveyard scene.. the special effects when they go over the mountain into Switzerland.

7. It's not all fun and games though- The Sound of Music has more than it's fair share of tear jerker moments too. When Maria leaves.. when Christopher Plummer chokes at the concert while singing Edelweiss.. I'm brimming up just thinking about it.

8. Choreography. That dance around the fountain and on the steps must have taken some co-ordinating. The ballroom dancing too. And the peek-a-round during the cuckoo song. Austria's Got Talent.

9. The script was dreamt up by some kind of complete legend. "I haven't had so much fun since the day we put glue on Fräulein Josephine's toothbrush." Priceless.

10. Gay Kurt. Nuff said.
